Abstract:

Achieving food safety and security is a pressing challenge in today's world, necessitating advancements in food packaging technology. Electrospinning, a versatile technique for fabricating polymers, has emerged as a promising method in food packaging. This essay explores the application of electrospun nanofibers in antimicrobial food packaging, focusing on their potential in sustained release and the development of sensors for smart packaging. The use of organic polymers, such as essential oils and curcumin, in antibacterial film formation is discussed, highlighting their promising antimicrobial properties. However, challenges remain, including the need for scaling up production and addressing potential risks associated with nanoparticles. Improved stability, barrier properties, functionality, and safety are crucial for the widespread adoption of electrospun nanofibers in the food packaging industry. By overcoming these challenges, safer and more efficient antimicrobial food packaging technologies can be achieved, ensuring the delivery of fresh and uncontaminated food to consumers
