A zirconia/alumina nanocomposite stabilized with cerium oxide (Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite) can be a good substitute as reinforcement in metal matrix composites. In present study, the effect amount of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 particles on the properties of Al-Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite was investigated. For this purpose, Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite synthesized by aqueous combustion with an average grain size of 25nm, in 1,3,5,7, and 10 wt%, and aluminium powder with average size of 30 μm were used. Single action press with 600 MPa for 60 min at 450 °C applied to prepare cylindrical samples. It was found that, a Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite (0-7 wt.%) increasing, led to the hardness and density increasing also compression strength were increased and then they were decreased; as the amount of Ce-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposite increases to 7 wt. %.
