Finite element analysis of an adhesively bonded Al\CFRP square section under axialand oblique loading abstract

The adhesively bonded square sections (ABSS) are used to improve the energy absorption and specific energyabsorption (SEA) under oblique loading. Finite element models using ls-dyna were established to analyze thedeformation mode and load-displacement curve of ABSS and hybrid al/CFRP models. Then, the overallcrashworthiness parameter and energy absorption capacity were carried out. The results show that increasing thenumber of CFRP layers in stacking sequence of [0,90] cause to improve energy absorption while the stackingsequence of [90] doesn’t match the trend also it has better energy absorption capacity with 4 CFRP layersinstead of 8 layers.CFRP with stacking sequence of [90] seems to have better energy absorption capacity in both axial and obliqueloading of 10 degree meanwhile in eight layers of CFRP with stacking sequence of [0, 90] have better results inboth axial and oblique loading up to 10 degrees.
