Abstract:
Abstract:Background: Increased oxidative stress is a significant factor in obesity-related diseases and likely plays a fundamental role in the pathophysiology of diabetes.Aim: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) on certain antioxidant biomarkers (CAT and SOD) in women with type ۲ diabetes.Materials and Methods: This clinical trial was conducted on ۳۰ women aged ۵۰ to ۶۵ with type ۲ diabetes. The participants were divided into two groups: experimental and control. The intervention group engaged in HIIT for ۸ weeks, three sessions per week. The levels of CAT and SOD were measured by collecting ۵ mL of venous blood before and after the intervention. The data were analyzed using dependent t-test in SPSS software version ۲۵, with a significance level of p < ۰.۰۵.Results: According to the results, after ۸ weeks of intervention, in the HIIT group (p = ۰.۰۰), (mean difference = ۰.۵۴۰), there was a significant decrease in the variable CAT, while in the control group (p = ۰.۳۲), (mean difference = ۰.۳۹۰), no significant difference was observed. The data for the SOD variable indicated a significant decrease in the HIIT groups (p = ۰.۰۰), (mean difference = ۹.۸۷۶). However, in the control group (p = ۰.۶۷), (mean difference = ۰.۱۲۰), a significant difference was not observedConclusion: High-Intensity Interval Training with a prolonged duration leads to cellular stress and destruction of the antioxidants SOD and CAT, thus exerting negative effects on the cellular antioxidant capacity.
