Abstract:

Priming improves seed germination rate and seed yield. Few researches have been reportedregarding the priming of black mung bean (Vigna mungo L.) to improve its nutritionalproperties. The increase in soil salinity due to the decrease in rainfall and the expansion ofdroughts has caused the alkalinity of the soil to increase, and this itself can causeirreparable damage to agricultural products. In this study, the effect of hydro-priming ofblack mung bean at different hours including ۰, ۰.۵, ۱, ۳, ۶ and ۱۲h was investigated underalkaline stress with pH=۹. The factorial research was conducted in the form of a completelyrandomized design in three replications in the growth chamber of the Sciences Faculty ofUrmia University. The results of biochemical tests showed that the amount ofmalondialdehyde (MDA), and hydrogen peroxide (H۲O۲) decreased upon ۱hour seedhydro-priming in plants under alkaline stress compared to non-stressed black mung beanplants. Therefore, seed hydro-priming can be considered as an effective approach toameliorate the detrimental effects of alkalinity stress in black mung bean plants.
