Abstract:

Background: Training in problem solving is a method of therapy where individuals develop the ability to use their cognitive skills effectively to deal with difficult interpersonal situations. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to examine how problem-solving training affects the mental well-being and emotional management of couples. Method: This research is considered practical and will be conducted through a quasi-experimental pre-test, and post-test design with a control group. The study's statistical population consists of couples experiencing marital conflict in Kermanshah city in ۲۰۲۱. To narrow down the population, ۳۰ couples were purposefully selected and then randomly assigned to either the experimental group (۱۵ couples) or the control group (۱۵ couples). Both groups were asked to complete online questionnaires, including The Cognitive Emotion Regulation Questionnaire (Garanfski and Karaij (۲۰۰۷), The Satisfaction with Life Scale, and The Positive and Negative Affect Schedule. Afterwards, the group being tested participated in a program focused on problem-solving within families, consisting of ten weekly sessions each lasting ۶۰ minutes. On the other hand, the comparison group did not partake in any program. Results: The examination of the data obtained before and after the training showed that both groups demonstrated a noteworthy correlation between problem-solving training, mental well-being, and the cognitive regulation of emotions within couples(P<۰.۰۵). Conclusion: The findings indicated that problem-solving training has a notable correlation with the mental well-being and cognitive regulation of emotions in couples. Put simply, couples who receive more problem-solving training tend to have higher levels of mental well-being.
