Understanding the Metacognitive experiences of Iranian Women on the Verge of divorce abstract

Background: Couples are always faced with conflicts in their marital life. Their metacognitive experiences determine how they react to problems .Objectives: Present study was conducted to investigate the metacognitive experiences of Iranian women on the verge of divorce .Methods: In this inductive conventional qualitative content analysis, Women on the verge of divorce entered the study through purposive sampling, they were interviewed with unstructured and semi-structured interviews. Data collection and analysis proceeded simultaneously and data was analyzed based on five-stage Granheim and Landman’s approach. Data saturation was achieved with 17 participants . Robustness of the study was determined by Lincoln and Guba’s criteria.Results: After data analysis, one main theme was derived. This theme was reflect on turmoil explanation. Main categories were thinking about past decisions, focusing on roles, exploring the attributions, analysis of determinants of marital stability, reflection on Beliefs. Conclusions: The results of this study showed that the occurrence of problems caused a series of metacognitive activities in studied women. It seems strengthening metacognitive skills could help the women in preventing and managing problems.
