A New Generator-Side Converter for PMSG-based Wind Turbine Generators Using Single Phase Rectifiers for Low Power Applications abstract
A new structure as generator-side converter of a variable-speed wind energy conversion system (WECS) with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) isproposed which utilize three single phase Vienna rectifier. The same structure with conventional single phase PFC rectifier is also evaluated andcompared to the proposed converter. The main advantage of proposed topology comes from low voltage stress on semiconductor devices whichcauses cost, reliability, and efficiency advantages. Cost and efficiency analysis of converters are described in the paper. Analytical relations forpower loss calculation in both topologies, also cost comparison of proposed topologies and conventional six switch rectifier (SSR) are derivedand compared. The proposed WECS are simulated and results are illustrated which contains current control of PMSG by proposed converters, maximum power point tracking of wind turbine using perturb and observe (P&O) algorithm, and vector control of grid-side converter. Simulationresults demonstrates well performance of proposed topologies.
