"Investigation of meta-heuristic algorithms and their applications in solving optimization problems" abstract

In this article, researchers have investigated meta-heuristic algorithms and their applications in solving optimization problems. Meta-heuristic algorithms are powerful methods for solving complex optimization problems that are inspired by natural and social processes and seek to find near-optimal solutions. One of the problems raised in the paper is activity-based planning based on the traveling salesman problem. has been The aim of this problem is to optimize people's schedule by taking into account the trips and the existing transport network. Due to the complexity of this problem, traditional and precise methods are unable to provide suitable solutions. In this regard, researchers have introduced new approaches such as meta-heuristic algorithms. These techniques may not find the optimal solution, but they can reach a near-optimal solution in a reasonable time frame. In the following, the authors have performed a bibliometric analysis and presented the descriptive and evaluation characteristics of 120 meta-heuristic algorithms. The results show that the genetic algorithm is the most used, but the ant colony algorithm is more popular based on the number of citations. Finally, unexplored research gaps and future expectations are presented.
