Abstract:

New technological developments in power systems, especially the connection of renewable energy sources and the move towards free trade in electricity markets, have opened new opportunities and horizons for the advancement of electrical energy storage methods. On the other hand, the importance and various applications of electrical energy storage technologies have doubled in the last decade due to the advances in related sciences. These issues have created a fundamental need to evaluate and analyze the special features of each technology. Large-scale storage technologies have played a significant role in the field of energy consumption management. Among the applications of these technologies are peaking, load curve leveling, energy arbitrage and frequency stabilization. One of the leading challenges in exploiting these resources is the changes in wind speed and solar radiation, which are considered random phenomena and cause fluctuations in output power. These power fluctuations can increase or decrease the frequency outside the allowed range of a microgrid. Several methods have been proposed to reduce frequency fluctuations. The controller comes into action in case of frequency distortions caused by imbalance of production and consumption power in the studied power system. The working principle of the proposed controller is to measure the frequency in all control areas, process them and create a frequency control output for the system. This output is converted into a power control signal, so that it is a suitable input for production units. Therefore, in this article, the production and frequency control methods in wind turbines and thermal-solar power plants have been investigated.
