Integrating human and social equality in urban design: The philosophies of Tibbald and Lefebvre abstract

This comparative study explores the integration of human-centric and socially equitable principles in urban design through an examination of the philosophies of Francis Tibbalds and Henri Lefebvre. By analyzing their respective approaches to urban design, this research aims to highlight the importance of prioritizing human needs and social equity in shaping urban environments. Through a critical comparison of Tibbalds' emphasis on user-centered design and Lefebvre's focus on the production of space, this study seeks to identify commonalities and divergences in their philosophies. The findings suggest that a holistic approach that combines elements of both Tibbalds and Lefebvre's philosophies could lead to more inclusive and sustainable urban design practices. This paper explores the evolution of urban planning through the lens of Francis Tibbalds' human-centric approach and Henri Lefebvre's social and political considerations. By comparing and contrasting their philosophies, the paper highlights the importance of creating urban spaces that are both people-friendly and socially conscious. Case studies from cities around the world demonstrate practical applications of these theories, showing how they address contemporary challenges in urban design. The paper concludes with predictions for the future of urban planning, emphasizing the need for inclusive, sustainable, and socially equitable urban environments.
