Abstract:
Peaty soils due to high compressibility and low strength under loads are not suitable for engineering construction projects, road and building construction as well. Decrease of compressibility as well as increase in strength of peat can be obtained by chemical stabilization. Lime-stabilization is a common, applicable and economical approach that can improve geotechnical properties of peat soils. In this study, some important geotechnical properties of peat including compressive strength and elastic-plastic behavior are investigated. In this paper, laboratory samples of soil with different percentage of soil and lime has been studied - besides, administration of different tests for improving the Geo technical properties of stabilized peat soil, as well. The results of this study indicate that the use of hydrated lime in peat stabilizing obviously can be improved geotechnical properties of these soils. Peat mixed with different percentages of hydrated lime and cured in different time. Unconfined compressive strength test was performed on untreated and treated sample. The stress–strain behavior of lime-stabilized mixes was plotted and the results indicate that the use of hydrated lime in the peaty soils obviously tends to increase the compression strength.
