Iranian EFL learners' language achievement is linked to their self-regulated learning (SRL) and motivation abstract

The primary objective of this research was to identify the prevalent self-regulatory strategies employed by Iranian EFL learners during their English language acquisition process. Additionally, it aimed to investigate the interplay between motivation and self-regulated learning (SRL), as well as the correlation between SRL and second language (L2) achievement. A sample of 130 EFL learners from language institutes in Hamedan and Sanandaj participated in the study. They completed a questionnaire comprising 46 items assessing both self-regulated learning and motivation. Through frequency analysis, the study identified the five most commonly utilized self-regulatory strategies by Iranian EFL learners. Although a significant association was observed between motivation and SRL, the study did not find a significant correlation between SRL and L2 achievement.
