Biocompatible crosslinked copolymer of n-octadecyl acrylate and acrylicacid based on resorcin [4] calixarene as an absorbent for heavy metal abstract

A biocompatible cross-linked copolymer of n-octadecyl acrylate (ODA) and acrylic acid (AA) wasprepared using resorcin[4]calixarene as a base. The synthesis involved condensation of resorcinoland butanal to form resorcin[4]calixarene, followed by its modification with carbon disulfide (CS2)and benzyl bromide. Finally, ODA and AA were polymerized with N, N-methylene bisacrylamide(MBA) as a cross-linker to yield the desired copolymer. FT-IR analysis confirmed the structure ofthe synthesized materials while scanning electron microscopy (SEM) investigated the copolymer'smorphology.
