A study on the gelation time and rheological behavior of injectable hydrogelsbased on carboxymethyl chitosan abstract

Carboxymethyl chitosan (CMCS) exhibits biocompatibility, biodegradability, and more bioactivitycompared to chitosan. In this study, hydrogels with three various weight ratios of CMC to oxidizedalginate (1:1, 3:4, and 1:2) were fabricated through Schiff base reactions. The hydrogels werecharacterized in terms of gelation time and rheological behavior. The results demonstrated thatamong the three samples, hydrogel with CMC: alginate oxide ratio of 3:4 revealed the suitablegelation time (10 min). The rheometric mechanical spectroscopy showed that the sample withoptimum gelation time has G’=(10000,100000) and G”=(1000,10000).
