Antibacterial Copper Nanoparticles-Containing Electrospun Nanofibers forWound Healing Applications abstract

Infectious wounds from different and various causes are one of the most prevalent forms of traumaand require immediate and specialized care to minimize the consequences and risks. In this work,novel electrospun fibrous mats from Polyvinyl alcohol/PA (PVA/PA) containing coppernanoparticles are proposed as antimicrobial composite nanofibers for treating infectious wounds.Characterization of the prepared nanofibers by different characterization techniques (SEM, FTIR,XRD, etc.) confirmed the successful fabrication of copper-nanoparticles-loaded nanofibers withproper physicochemical, mechanical, and functional properties. The prepared nanofibers also showeddesired antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus bacteria withminimum cytotoxicity toward the NIH 3T3 cell line. Evaluating the wound healing activity of theprepared nanofibers on infected wounds indicated their desired wound healing characteristics in termsof healing rate, wound contraction, etc.
