Title: Physiotherapists' Attitudes Towards Evidence-Based Practice: A Narrative Review abstract

Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) is defined as "a process that combines thebest evidence, community values and priorities, and agency, social, andpolitical considerations to create programs and policies that are effectiveand grounded." EBP is an effective strategy for making informed and wiseclinical decisions based on the best available evidence, combined withcomplex clinical situations, physician expertise, and patient preferences. Our aim was to review attitudes about barriers and experiences ofphysiotherapists towards EBP. In relevant clinical studies and research, the increase in EBP among physical therapists is partly due to theexistence of wide unexplained variations in clinical practice patterns, pooracceptance of treatments with known efficacy, and the use of technologiesand interventions that were known to be ineffective.Implementation of EBP is recognized not only as an improvement inunderstanding and optimization of the care process in terms of knowledgeand ability, but also as an ethical obligation. Also, EBP has become anessential competency for rehabilitation and physical therapy practice.Further developments of the EBP movement, such as changing thetraditional hierarchy of evidence to the GRADE approach, emphasis onpatient values and shared decision-making in the EBP process, and thesystematic introduction of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines, arerecognized in the standards of physical therapy education and practice.Nevertheless, the obstacles and problems for the implementation anddissemination of the EBP process, in physical therapy, are among thesignificant differences in countries and fields and specific characteristicsof physical therapists. According to a survey of the current situation in thefield of EBP among physical therapists, along with teamwork and patient-centered care, it is recognized as a core competency in contemporaryhealth care. However, the dissemination and implementation of EBPremains problematic and dependent on various external and internal factors ranging from personal, institutional to systemic factors withspecific characteristics for professions, contexts, as well as facilitatorswidely across the board. The world has been explored. Finally, this study identified several barriers to the use of EBP by physicaltherapists, such as the inability to understand statistical data, insufficientsupport from employers and colleagues, organizational and timeconstraints, and lack of interest. Understanding potential barriers andproviding strategies to resolve them is suggested as an initial step fordeveloping strategies toward successful implementation and disseminationof EBP.
