Strategies for Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions through Tillage Management in Climate-Smart Agriculture abstract

Tillage management in climate-smart agriculture plays a key role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. One effective strategy is the use of no-till or minimum-till farming methods, which help preserve soil structure and reduce erosion. These methods not only retain soil moisture but also minimize the need for heavy machinery, thereby reducing carbon dioxide emissions from fossil fuels. Additionally, the use of cover crops and crop rotation can enhance biodiversity and improve microbial activity in the soil, leading to increased carbon sequestration. Moreover, nitrogen management techniques, such as the use of organic fertilizers and precise plant nutrient analysis, can reduce nitrous oxide emissions, a significant greenhouse gas. The application of modern technologies such as remote sensing and climate data to predict water and nutrient needs allows farmers to optimize resource use, reducing environmental impact. In this way, climate-smart agriculture takes significant steps toward mitigating climate change and protecting the Earth.
