Examining the Instances of the Quran's Healing Power in the Narrations of Imam Al-Kadhim (A.S.) abstract
The healing property of the Quran is one of its characteristics that has been emphasized. (Yūnus: 57, Al-Isrāʾ: 82). Based on the interpretative meaning of the Quran's healing power, it can be seen as not only a means to remove and cure physical and mental illnesses and afflictions, but also to prevent them from occurring in the first place. Therefore, it is necessary to seek out the instances of both aspects of the Quran's healing power: its ability to cure and prevent diseases from humans. The interpretative narrations related to the verses of the Quran from Imam Al-Kadhim (A.S.), in addition to emphasizing the wide range of meanings of the Quran's healing power ("healing from every ailment"), introduce diverse instances of the Quran's unparalleled characteristics. For example, there are narrations that speak about the effect of reciting certain verses, such as Ayat al-Kursi, to prevent serious illnesses, reciting one hundred verses of the Quran to remove fear and anxiety, and reciting the last three chapters of the Quran every night to ward off all kinds of diseases from a child until old age, and even reciting specific verses to prevent harm from one's cattle. These are just a few examples of the instances of the Quran's healing power. It seems that in the narrations about this topic that have been attributed to the Infallible Imams, especially Imam Al-Kadhim, the healing power of the Quran is more often interpreted as a means of preventing and warding off diseases and misfortunes. In contrast to the common and customary meaning of healing, which refers to the cure and removal of diseases and afflictions, the narrations attributed to Imam Al-Kadhim emphasize the meaning of prevention and warding off evil and disease.
