Abstract:

The optimal self-tune fuzzy controller of Static Var Compensator (SVC) and coordinating it with Power System Stabilizers (PSSs) to improve power system stability arepresented in this paper. The self-tune fuzzy controller of SVC and its coordinated design with PSSs for improving transientstability of the system are formulated as an optimization problem and the Teaching-Learning-Based Optimization (TLBO) is used to search for the optimal parameters of controllers. A two area test system with two machines is used for showing the effectiveness of proposed approach todetermine the optimal self-tune fuzzy controller of SVC and the coordinated controller parameters to improve power system stability. The results of the nonlinear simulation show that optimally coordinated design of SVC-based controller and PSSs improve greatly the transient stability and damping ofthe system. Finally, a two area system with four machines is used to show the damping of the inter-area and local modes of oscillations with optimal controller parameters
