Performance Simulation of an RCCI Engine Fueled with Gasoline-diesel/Biodiesel Waste Cooking Oil with a Focus on Consumption Trends of Fuel Constituents abstract

In this study to investigate RCCI engine performance with WCO-gasoline/diesel fuel, a single-zone code was developed considering the detail chemical kinetic mechanism. Then, species' performance parameters and production and consumption rates were determined at different loads. According to the study of chemical species consumption, unsaturated fatty acids are consumed more quickly in combustion than saturated fats. Unsaturated fatty acids reduce the ignition delay, while saturated fatty acids do not affect fuel consumption. Saturated fatty acids are consumed at a higher rate, and diesel fuel consumption rate is also lower than WCO in all loads. According to the results, with an increase in load from 20 to 80%, the start of HTHR is closer to the starting moment of fuel injection by about 2.5 degrees. As engine load and inlet fuel increase, LTHR formation becomes shorter due to the high proportion of LR fuel. Formaldehyde production occurs at the same time as the heat release at low temperatures, and hydroxyl production occurs at the same time as the heat release at high temperatures. As engine load increases, the ratio of formaldehyde produced to hydroxyl decreases, leading to a reduction in the LTHR interval due to the decrease in DI/FPI fuel ratios.
