Synthesis of Nucleophilic Magnetic Scavenger Based on Cellulose for Absorption of Electrophilic Compounds abstract
This study describes the synthesis and identification of a novel cellulose-based nucleophilic scavenger. First, cellulose was extracted from Aloe vera plant. Then, in order to produce amino modified cellulose, cellulose was functionalized with (3-aminopropyl) triethoxysilane (APTES). In the next step, Fe3O4 NPs were synthesized by co-precipitation method. In the end, Fe3O4@cellulose-NH2 nanocomposite was synthesized with the combination of Fe3O4 MNP and amino modified cellulose. Fe3O4@cellulose-NH2 was applied for the absorption of various electrophilic compounds such as aldehydes and ketones. The synthesized nucleophilic scavenger can be successfully separated from the reaction mixture using an external magnetic field and reused several times without significant decrease in its capacity and efficiency.
