Application of Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA) in Avian Health and Diseases abstract

Diagnose of diseases in birds is always one of the most important steps for treatment and control. It may have several steps, including observing the signalment, clinical tests, necropsy and finally paraclinical tests such as molecular and serological tests. Early diagnosis is important in poultry production because as soon as possible the disease is diagnosed, the more accurate preventive, therapeutic and management measures will be taken. Prevention is mainly done with biosecurity and vaccination; it is important to distinguish vaccinated birds from diseased birds. Serological tests make it possible to gather a correct analysis of the status of the flock in terms of vaccination, the appropriate immune response of the body and the involvement of the flock with disease. One of these serological tests, which has a wider application in poultry medicine, is ELISA, the methods of which have been reviewed in this article.
