Pronunciation Differences Between American and British English

One of the main difficulties a foreigner student may face when learning English pronunciation is the pronunciation differences between British and American accents of English. These accents are far more similar than they are different. In this respect, the Label 'English' is applied to such accents. However, some differences are important and deserving of attention. In this paper some noticeable dissimilarities and historical changes in these varieties are mentioned in subsequences sections. This study also presented some treatment and decisions about choosing the pronunciations. Finally, the findings demonstrated that there are a number of salient and substantial differences between these two dialects and show that these differences are substantial enough to deserve the attention and study of both students and teachers of English. As a result, rigorous contrastive studies of the two dialects and prepare pamphlets and booklets which can be of great help to students and learners of English in Iran
