Nano Coatings to Improve the Oxidation Resistance of UNS 430for SOFC Interconnect Application abstract

Spinel coatings are promising candidates for SOFC interconnect applications. The aim of thisstudy was to compare the parabolic rate constant (kp) of coated UNS 430 steel with cobaltand manganese by use of the pack cementation method. Isothermal and cyclic oxidation wereapplied at 800 °C to evaluate kp. Results showed that the cobalt coating transformed toMnCo2O4 and CoCr2O4 spinels during heating in isothermal oxidation and also manganesecoating transformed to Mn3O4 and MnFe2O4 nano spinels. The cobalt coated samplesdemonstrated lower kp in each test in comparison with manganese coated samples and it indicate that cobalt spinels has better resistance during oxidation.
