Effect of Clay Nanoparticles on the Thermal and Barrier Properties of Polymeric Coatings

Recently, some types of clays especially Montmorillonite (MMT) have attracted great attention in paint industry because of its nano meter sized layered structure, high cation exchange capacity and availability at low cost. In this article, it was tried to introduce the structure, properties and surface modification of clays; In addition, methods of dispersion of nano clays in coating and types of nano clay coating were reviewed, finally the effect of MMT on thermal and barrier properties of polymeric coatings were also discussed.
