SPH SIMULATION OF FLUID-STRUCTURE INTERACTION OF FLOW PAST A WATER-LEAVING ROTATING CIRCULAR CYLINDER abstract
This paper studies the two dimensional water-exit problem of a rotating circular cylinder from a water stream for various Froude numbers, Reynolds number, and spin rates using the mesh-free particle-based Smoothed-Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) method. For this purpose the full Navier-Stokes equations along with the continuity equation have been solved as the governing equations of the problem. In order to verify the accuracy of our numerical code, the problem of freely-rising of a non-rotating circular cylinder in the stationary water has been simulated. It is shown that the SPH method is able to accurately simulate this problem. It is found that the cylinder with a smaller value of specific gravity stands over the cylinder with larger values of SG. It is concluded that the path of cylinder in higher Reynolds flow more deviates from the straight vertical path.
