Abstract:
In this paper, a new combined technique is proposed based on passive methods in order to detect the islanding conditions. The capabilities of these methods are much better than of previous used techniques. This paper introduces three new parameters for detecting islanding operation of DG: rate of change of frequency relay (ROCOF) and the current total distortion harmonic (THD) and the rate of change of phase angle difference relay (ROCOPAD). This algorithm combines these parameters for detecting the islanding conditions. The proposed algorithm act very well under the switching and fault conditions and found working effectively in the situations where one of the parameters fails. Simulation are performed in PSCAD/EMTDC environment to validate the effectiveness of the propose method
