Abstract:
In a world that is becoming increasingly interconnected, interdependent, and globalized while sustaining distinct national as well as group identities, the present study tries to focus on facilitating role of a responsive multicultural curriculum in accordance with supporting diversity in a community in one hand, and creating a unified national community on the other. This paper aims at promoting global perspectives in education in order to eliminate the tensions between the national and the global, moreover between unity and diversity that is highly relevant in todays' globalized world. Therefore the purpose of this article is to explore and apply the tips on a multicultural curriculum based on Gorsky's key characteristics of multicultural curriculum (2010) and Banks' multicultural education's five dimensions (1997) during three different courses and the ways it can address these disparate goals, i.e. supporting diversity in a community and creating a unified national community simultaneously. The results showed that the teachers who engage a responsive multicultural curriculum can help their students to achieve a better understanding of diverse community and a unified nation at the same time.
