Abstract:
Injection of high-pressure water spray to humidify the inlet air up to 98% relative humidity and therefore cool it close to wet bulb temperature is known as inlet fogging. In order to test the utility of the procedure a thermodynamic computer programme for modelling of gas turbine performance with and without the application of inlet fogging was developed. The model was then tested using inlet data obtained from an nservice General Electric Frame 5 (GE-F5) gas turbine, installed in Mashhad power plant. The results provided a clear indication that the power and efficiency of the GE-F5 gas turbine in Mashhad power plant could be increased if the inlet fogging system was applied. If this system was applied output power would increase up to 10% and efficiency gains of some 5.5% could be expected.
