Advanced Wound Care Management by Nurses: A Strategy to Prevent Healthcare-Associated Infections

Background: Healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) remain a major challenge in wound care, significantly increasing morbidity, length of hospital stay, and healthcare costs. Nurses play a critical role in implementing evidence-based wound management strategies to reduce infection rates. Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of advanced nursing-led wound care interventions in preventing wound-related infections. Methods: A quasi-experimental study was conducted among hospitalized patients with acute and chronic wounds. The intervention group received advanced wound care management based on updated clinical guidelines, while the control group received routine care. Infection rates, wound healing time, and patient satisfaction were assessed over eight weeks. Results: The intervention group demonstrated a significantly lower incidence of wound infections (p < ۰.۰۱), faster wound healing, and higher patient satisfaction compared to the control group. Conclusion: Advanced nursing-led wound care management significantly reduces wound-related infections and improves patient outcomes. Integrating evidence-based wound care protocols into nursing practice is strongly recommended.
