Abstract:

A simple cantilever wing was modeled using the Rayleigh-Ritz approach. Based on the quasi-steady and unsteady strip aerodynamics and the Lagrange equations, the equations are derived for mass, stiffness, and damping matrices of the wing model. Aerodynamics loads were considered in both constant and oscillatory basis and more accurate expressions are introduced for the Theodorsen functions. Flutter behavior of the wing model was analyzed using several combinations of bending and torsion modes. In overall, Flutter occurred at higher values of the wind speeds for the wing modeled with the frequency dependent aerodynamics.
