Abstract:
In recent years, the increasing world population and rapid industrial development has increased the consumption of fossil fuel-derived oils. Therefore many countries are investigating new methods for deep desulfurization of petroleum fractions and liquid fuels. In this work the performance tests of a newly synthesized Palladium supported on functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (FMWNTs) for deep oxidative desulfurization (ODS) of naphtha fraction is presented. The fabricated nanocatalyst has been found to be highly efficient in catalyzing oxidation of the sulfur impurities of naphtha fraction to the corresponding sulfones at 25°C and 1 bar. It is shown that the presented nanocatalyst can be employed to achieve a 95% desulfurization efficiency under environmental operating conditions which is quite interesting for sulfur emission management and development of large scale ultra deep desulfurization plants.
