Voltage Security Monitoring Based on Vulnerability Concept Considering Network Limits abstract

Voltage security problems, one of the most vital aspects of power system studies, have been dramatically dependent on network limits. Network active and reactive limits can greatly change the loading capability of power system buses and then they can affect regions’ vulnerability against load increasing from a voltage security viewpoint. To enhance voltage security, it is essential for both system planners and operators to recognize vulnerable areas of the power system and pay more attention to those areas. In this paper, two different methods of the Reduced Jacobian and Gradient Based method are proposed to detect and rank vulnerable areas of the power system with and without considering network limits. The methods are examined on two practical networks of New Zealand and Iran. Relying on results obtained, the efficiency of methods has been comprehensively discussed and compared from some practical viewpoints with respect to voltage security. Also, results are compared with the expected experience of system experts.
