Abstract:
In the past decades there has been a renewed interest in biofilm processes for wastewater treatment with new technologies showing improved performance compared to traditionalbiofilm systems. Traditional systems such as trickling filters are not volume effective; mechanical failure has been a common problem with RBCs; and it is hard to distribute theload evenly over the entire carrier surface in fixed media submerged biofilters. Moving Bedtechnology presents several operational advantages, compared to other conventional biological treatments. Biological treatment will take account of Moving Bed BiologicalReactors (MBBR) with some sort of modifications. The proposed results from different applications when used for domestic wastewater will be discussed. The results canindicate that MBBR with polyethylene media as Biofilm carrier may possess great potential to be used for organic matters (OMs) removal from water and wastewater. This study can be helpful to check possibility that the moving bed Biofilm process may be used as an ideal and efficient option for the total nutrient removal from municipal wastewater.
