Abstract:
2-(Propylcarbamoyl)terephthalic acid isobutyl POSS is a very newly developed functionalized nanostructure. This material, with a surfactant structure, increases in surface tension at two certain concentrations after addition to a relatively polar solvent mixture consisting acetone, ethanol and isopropanol. Significant changes observed in the dynamic viscosity of the solutions could confirm structural changes at these two concentrations. TEM and AFM studies confirmed formation of vesicular structures at very low concentrations of this nanostructure i.e., 0.1 mM. Increment observed in surface tension was attributed to the selective absorption of the solvents in different compartments of the vesicles. It can be concluded that POSS can be a good candidate for selective separation of solvents
