Evaluate the potential of electricity generation from municipal solid wastes of Qom, Iran abstract
Organic materials are a significant portion of municipal wastes. With proper management and extraction of biogas from landfill sites and transfer it to the biogas plant can in addition reduce pollution, using biogas be gained substantial energy. In this study, using data collected and experiments trying to get the potential to produce biogas from wastes of Qom city. An average of 66.6% of municipal wastes of Qom is from organic materials, and the moisture content average of wastes is 65.5%. The results show that for per kg of waste, 0.209 m3 biogas and 0.135 m3 methane will be obtained. According to per capita waste production and the population of Qom, 134830 m3 biogas daily and 49212950 m3 per year will be produced that the energy value of this amount of biogas is equivalent 1166627490.5 MJ per year. According to volume of biogas will be produced, combustion turbine to electricity generation was considered that with regard to the efficiency of between 20-28 percent of this turbines and with considering the efficiency average of 24 percent for this turbines, power generation will be equivalent 76.77 GWh per year.
