Influence of inorganic oxidants and metal ions on photocatalytic activity of synthesized ZnO nanocrystals abstract
Semiconductor-assisted photocatalysis has attracted considerable attention among advanced oxidation as promising tool for implementing the large-scale purification of wastewater. The aim of this study was to investigate the use of UV/ZnO process for degradation of agricultural organic pollutant, diazinon. Diazinon is persistent pollutants in agricultural soil and water resources. As photocatalytic oxidation process generates hydroxyl radicals that further oxidize pollutant in the solution, our efforts focused on searching for better inorganic oxidants and metal ions to prevent electron-hole recombination. The possible roles of the additives on the reaction were discussed. The efficiency parameters such as quantum yield and electrical energy per order were estimated and compared for UV/ZnO and UV/ZnO/inorganic oxidants systems.
