Abstract:
Collocation is one of the most problematic areas in second language learning. If one wants toimprove her or his communication in other language should improve her or his collocationcompetence. Second language learners, need to put some effort to learn collocation in order tomake their speech and writing more native like. This study aimed to explore the effect ofteaching collocation through games on Iranian EFL learners’ vocabulary. We introducedcollocation games as the basis of a general framework for facilitating, modeling, and analyzingthe interaction between students. The biggest problem in class is that activities which are intextbooks are boring, uncommunicative and just easily be done at home alone. Students at everylevel need to be aware of the importance of collocation. An experimental and a control group ofIranian EFL learners have constituted our sample. The experimental group received treatment(Games) and control group was taught based on traditional method. Results showed that teachingcollocation through games had positive effect on vocabulary learning. Collocation Games createactive environments for learning, communication and a framework for practice and learningthrough failure.
