Abstract:
The controversial but new topic in this era is discourse marker which was considered by different scholars inmany languages. Because of various descriptions and names which is dedicated to discourse marker, there isno unite explanation and name for it. This paper considered Bruce Fraser’s theory and aimed to analyzeinferential discourse markers in Little Women and its two Persian translations. According to Fraser (1999)Discourse markers have two subtypes: topic markers and message markers. Message markers have threecategories: inferential, elaborative and contrastive markers. This article aimed to investigate inferentialmarkers by chi- square tests. The frequencies of these tests presented in tables. The results then indicated thatthe difference between the source text and the old translation is not significant but between the source textand the new translation is considerable.
