Investigation of Miscible CO2 Flooding Efficiency Using Predictive Models

Geological sequestration of CO2 in EOR operations can result in a reduce in CO2 Emissions and also recovering incremental oil. Several theoretical and experimental based models are presented to predict additional oil recovery obtained by miscible CO2 flooding. Each model is developed based on several assumptions which reduced their accuracy and robustness. A fractional flow based model is used along with a decline rate model to investigate the resulted increase in oil recovery due to CO2 flooding and results of models are compared. Both models are then used to run a viability test on one of Iranian oil fields. The results of both model show that CO2 flooding can highly increase the recovery in this reservoir from 0.224 MMbbl to 2.6 – 18 MMb.
