Abstract:
Graphene, the 2D allotrope of carbon, among its unique electrical and mechanical properties, proved to be a suitable barrier layer, unless the presence of structural defects. This makes the graphene an emerging material for using in separation applications. Graphene membranes, which are fabricated by transferring of large-scale graphene layers onto arbitrary substrates, are a new type of membranes which could be used in gasseparation applications. In this work, graphene was synthesized using a LPCVD method. Raman Spectroscopy and optical microscopy reveals that the synthesized graphene is mono-layer and fully covering the surface. Using a direct transfer method, the graphne membrane was fabricated on a PTFE microfiltration membrane. The gas permeation tests were performed using a constant-volume method. It was revealed that a two layergraphene membrane enhances the H2/N2 selectivity with a small decrease in H2 permeance
