A Review on Land treatment Methods and its Ability to Remove Pollutants

One of the most cost effective way of wastewater treatment is land treatment. Thisprocess is defined as the application of wastewater to the land at a controlled rate in adesigned and engineered setting. The purpose of the activity isto obtain beneficial use of these materials, to improve environmentalquality, and to achieve treatment and disposal goals in acost-effective manner.Land treatment systems include slow rate (SR), overland flow (OF), and soilaquifer treatment (SAT) or rapid infiltration (RI).These systems require minimal effortfor operation and maintenance. This paper first describe each of these methods by: hydraulic pathways, the way of treatment, and there pros and cons. In the next part some standards and ability of each method in removal of pollutions and chemical compounds described. In this part also some successful application of land treatment reviewed and the ability of these method for crop irrigationand its limitations reviewed
