Abstract:

Increasing demands for lead batterieshave eventuatedin increase themanufacturing of lead batteries and the recycling of used lead batteries, whichare known to release large quantities of lead into the environment. Lead poisoning is one of the most serious environmental health threatwhich rangesm the loss of neurological function to death depending upon the extent and duration of exposure.In the present study, the environmental impactsoflead recycling plantswas considered before the implementation of any possible pollution source to evaluate the environmental consequences of the implementation of an industrial project during its conception phase. This study provides, therefore, elements for the project improvement and also data to guide decision-makers, investors and governments and make them aware of the project consequences. Theoretically, this is the step through which every lead-recycling facility shouldundergo in order to prevent environmental pollution and provide every aspect of environmental and human health protection. Pollution sources treatment, pollution prevention and alsoenvironmentalmonitoring measuresand environmental regulations were discussed to suggest solutions to the problem of lead poisoning in the environment so that concrete data are provided to improve the process, and increase the degree of environmental and human health protection.
