Abstract:
Effects of kerosene Impacted Sand on the compressive strength of concrete in tidal environment was examined. Kerosene (0, 2, 4, 6 and 8%, by weight of sand) was used to contaminate sand to prepare concrete specimens. The cubes were subjected to tidal environment in costs of Makran sea (south-east of Iran). Furthermore, other specimens subjected to clean potable water (CPW) for comparison and the compressive strengths determined at ages 3, 7, 14, 28, days. A strength reduction of 30% and 27% was shown in 2% contaminated samples subjected to Tidal and CPW. Effect of tidal environment was less significant, however using contaminated sand adversely affect the compressive strength of concrete.
