A Framework for a Risk-based Expert System for Assembly Tool Selection abstract
Road transportation is one the most important means of transporting goods and people in today’s world. Despite other ways of transportation some of which are more comfortable or cheaper than cars, automobiles have still their charms for the people. One of the drawbacks of automobiles is the high rate of accidents in comparison with other transportation ways. Approximately 1.2 million people are every year killed in road accidents and the monetary loss due to these accidents is estimated to be as high as 100 billion dollars which comprise 2 to 3 percent of the gross domestic production of the world. The reasons causing these accidents are threefold: the ones related to the people, the road and the automobile itself; among which the latter is mostly overseen especially in developing countries. In this paper the focus is on the automobile parameters related to road accidents and specially fastening techniques in Automobile manufacturing industries. Finally a frame work for a Risk-based Expert system is suggested based on the previous work of the authors on Expert systems used in tool selection in car assembly lines. The data used in this paper is gathered from local Automobile manufacturers and also the technical texts of tool providers.
