Abstract:
Least mean square (LMS) adaptive filters have been used in a wide range of signal processing application because of its simplicity in computation and implementation. However, the slow convergence of the LMS algorithm is well known. On the other hand, the recursive least squares (RLS) algorithm has a fast convergence rate but with high computational complexity. Recently adaptive filtering are presented that are based on Matching Pursuits, have a nice tradeoff between complexity and performance . this paper describes a new approach for a channel equalizer using the Recursive Adaptive Matching Pursuit (RAMP) structure for equalization in digital communications systems, the RAMP algorithm is shown two perform very well in attenuating and inter symbol interference (ISI) relative to the standard NLMS and the recently introduced Fast Euclidean Direction Search (FEDS) algorithm.
