Abstract:

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of peppermint essential oil and salicylic acid on the vase life and quality characteristics of tuberose cut flower. Experiment was arranged as factorial based on completely randomized design with three replications. Treatments were peppermint essence in three levels (0, 00 and 100 mg/lit) and salicylic acid in four levels (0, 00, 50 and 100 mg/lit). Studied parameters were flower diameter, water absorption rate, percentage of opening and wilting flowers, relative fresh weight of flowers, steam diameter of cut flowers, soluble solids of petal, vase life, number of opened buds, leaf chlorophyll and number of falling florets. Results showed that all characters were affected by soluble, peppermint essence 100 mg/lit and salicylic acid 100 mg/lit were the most effective treatments on the quality of flowers and it could be used to delaying leaf senescence and increase the flower vase life of tuberose
