Morphology of Iranian Folktales and Translation: Propp’s Model as a Case in Point

The present study attempts to analyze some Iranian folktales and their translations based on the linear sequential structural analysis given by Vladimir Propp (1968). It means that the structure of the text is featured based on chronological order of the linear sequence of elements in the text. We are to investigate the functions of folk or fairy tales and the consistency of these elements during the study and based on which we set our criteria. Each function can be introduced as an idea. Therefore, we are dealing with the translation of ideas existed in the text. On the analytical part, we are to extract the functions introduced by Propp in the source text, Iranian folktales, and then looking over the same functions in the target text to see whether these functions, ideas, have been preserved in the translation or not. In other words, from structural point of view, to see whether the langue of these tales has been preserved or not and further to see to what extent this syntagmatic model is successful. This study intended to develop the model of Propp as a tentative model in evaluating the translation of Iranian folktales
