Abstract:
— Since the heart is a complex nonrigid organ, its modeling is a nontrivial task. This study aims to indicate the whole procedure of making accurate three-dimensional (3D) models of the human heart components using computed tomography (CT) volumes step-by-step. The model must be accurate anatomically and provide sufficient information to guide automatic detection and segmentation. Density segmentation techniques were used to geometrically define the left, right ventricle and atrium, and outer layer of heart. Surface creation was applied for modifying and making geometrical surfaces of different component. Computer aided design (CAD) modeling also was implemented to finalize model. Created model not only could be used for educational studies as a teaching tools in medical and public education, it also has the ability to be implemented as initial data for 3-dimension (3D) printing that it has been widely used for creating different artificial organs and parts in recent years. Moreover, this study results an effective model that different finite element analysis, computer fluid dynamic, and simulation could applied on it to investigate various phenomena happened in the body and reaching them experimentally is impossible.
